What to do in Dorset & New Forset

LOCAL INFORMATION
TThe Christchurch Harbour Hotel is located in one of the most beautiful and affluent areas of the UK. Surrounded with natural beauty, guests are spoilt for choice with several beaches offering 12 miles of golden sand, days out across the breathtaking Jurassic coastline and towns to explore like Bournemouth and Christchurch. The 12th Century Priory Church, which stands above the town of Christchurch and Mudeford, has been restored and contains a monument to the poet Shelley. The delightful Dorset countryside surrounding the hotel has pleasant walks with the beach, or local nature reserve at Stanpit Marsh only a few minutes away. The nearby New Forest is only a short drive, where there are lots of forest walks and picnic areas. 

Why not visit the quaint little village of Burley where the New Forset ponies and donkeys wander freely along the high street or join a pony trek from the local stables. For a wonderful day out for all the family, visit the attractions at Beaulieu. Apart from the famous Motor Museum (which has more than 250 vehicles displaying a range of motoring through the ages - from the 1890’s to cars of the future and the James Bond Exhibition) you can also enjoy the Palace House or Beauliea Abbey. Along the coast to the west of Christchurch is Bournemouth offering all the delights of a large seaside town and a further 15 minutes drive to the west is the pretty town of Poole, secluded in one of the world’s largest natural harbour. Poole Park, set in acres of parkland and lakes, offers formal gardens with many species of birds and a boating lake.

GOLF COURSES
Barton on Sea Golf Club is a superb cliff top 18 hole golf course 4 miles from the hotel with amazing views over the Needles and Isle of Wight. We have negotiated special green fees of £35 per player during week days and £45 on Saturdays and Sundays. A handicap certificate will be required together with the correct dress code, to book contact the hotel reception.

HORSE RIDING
For many, a trip to the New Forest would not be complete without going horse riding along some of the beautiful woodland tracks or across forest heaths. There is Burley Riding School about 5 miles from the hotel in the New Forest and to book telephone (01425) 610278 and enjoy a great day out.

FOREST CYCLING
Go and enjoy a healthy active day out on one of the New Forest cycle routes with rides for all ages and abilities. Based in the traditional village location at Burley you will be able to cycle along the famous Old Railway, visit the deer sanctuary and enjoy the woodland trail. WATER SPORTS
Sailing, water-skiing and windsurfing are available close to the hotel, amongst the variety of activities this area has to offer. LEISURE FACILITIES
The nearest leisure centre to the hotel is ‘The Two Rivers Meet’ in Christchurch. The centre offers badminton, squash, golf, table tennis, pool, racquetball, a gymnasium and swimming pool.
